Having just released an all-new version of the iconic compact SUV recently, Toyota is once more raising the bar for its 2020 Toyota RAV4 lineup.

The new TRD Off-Road trim will feature design by Toyota Racing Development, our brand's in-house performance-tuning wing. If what we know about it so far is any indication, it'll take the wildly popular Adventure trim to the next level, making it one hardcore orienteer. What can we expect?

For one, an engine oil cooler, transmission fluid cooler, and 150-amp alternator upgrade will support the hard-charging 203-horsepower, 2.5-liter Dynamic Force I4 engine and its 184 pound-feet of torque. Mileage will remain excellent, thanks to a standard Direct Shift eight-speed auto with intelligence: expect up to 25 mpg in a city like Pittston and 32 mpg down the highway to Wilkes-Barre, by EPA estimates. But some of the pieces de resistance:

  • A TRD-tuned independent MacPherson strut front suspension for ultimate handling response
  • Standard Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive (TV-AWD) with a rear driveline disconnect to economize on fuel
  • Active Cornering Assist for precision maneuvering
  • Multi-terrain Select with mud & sand, rock & dirt, snow, and normal modes to take on diverse terrain around Hazleton
  • Hill start assist control and downhill assist control for managing slopes
  • Durable 18-inch, six-spoke TRD flow-formed alloy wheels in s matte-black finish and rugged Falken all-terrain tires

These aren't all you'll have to look forward to. Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 (TSS 2.0) and the Toyota Star Safety System also come standard, easing navigating traffic congestion around Williamsport. Together they keep your ride level, in-lane, on course, safely distanced from other vehicles, and clear of collisions. A standard panoramic backup camera with dynamic gridlines can even help you reverse and park with situational awareness.

The cabin will also be exceptionally accommodating. It'll offer 98.9 cubic feet of passenger space, red-stitched, embossed insert-laden SofTex-trimmed seats with front-headrest TRD stitching, dual-zone automatic climate control, 69.8 cubic feet of space for cargo, and more. Ditto for tech-savvy. An 8-inch touchscreen with advanced voice recognition will come standard, alongside Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa compatibility, one USB media and four USB charge ports, Wi-Fi Connect access, and several 12-volt/120-watt auxiliary power outlets.

The best way to experience the new 2020 RAV4 TRD Off-Road, however? Firsthand, here at Ciocca Toyota of Williamsport. Keep an eye out for updates on the big release.
